IDFC First Bank reported a standalone net profit of ₹1,044.60 crore for the second quarter of FY27, against ₹352.31 crore a year earlier, according to Kotak Neo's report of 24 October 2026. That is about 2.96 times the year-ago figure, and The Hindu's headline puts the rise at 197%. A third report headlined a fall of 8.6% to ₹1,049 crore, and Spectate Media could not reconcile that with the other figures. Spectate Media has not seen the bank's filing.

Profit and income

Profit before tax was ₹1,401.58 crore, against ₹428.22 crore. First-half net profit was ₹2,119.56 crore, against ₹814.88 crore. Total income was ₹14,217.78 crore, up about 20% from ₹11,828.34 crore. Interest earned was ₹11,921.75 crore and interest expended ₹5,737.34 crore, which implies net interest income of about ₹6,184 crore, up about 21%, in line with an NDTV Profit headline. Other income was ₹2,296.03 crore, and operating expenses were ₹5,941.91 crore, up from ₹5,123.91 crore. Operating profit before provisions rose to ₹2,538.53 crore from ₹1,880.10 crore.

Provisions and asset quality

Provisions and contingencies fell to ₹1,136.95 crore from ₹1,451.88 crore. Gross NPA was 1.32% of gross advances, against 1.86%, and net NPA was 0.40%, against 0.52%.

Balance sheet

Deposits were ₹3,48,583.43 crore, against ₹2,76,771.32 crore, which Spectate Media calculates as growth of about 26%. Advances were ₹3,35,642.10 crore, against ₹2,57,100.66 crore, up about 31%. The capital adequacy ratio was 14.67%, against 14.11%. The report gives only year-on-year comparisons and no net interest margin, low-cost deposit ratio or management comment.

Key numbers

  • Net profit: ₹1,044.60 crore (Against ₹352.31 crore a year ago)
  • Provisions: ₹1,136.95 crore (Down from ₹1,451.88 crore)
  • Gross NPA: 1.32% (From 1.86% a year earlier)
  • Advances: ₹3,35,642 crore (Up about 31%)

What boards and CFOs should note

Three points stand out. First, lower provisions and an operating profit rise of about 35% both contributed to the profit jump. Second, advances grew faster than deposits. Third, with a conflicting report in circulation, the filing is the figure to rely on.
