Hindustan Zinc reported a record quarterly profit for the quarter ended 30 September 2026, according to its press release of 20 October. Net profit was US$671 million, up 142% from a year earlier. The company reports in US dollars, so every figure below is in dollars unless stated.
The numbers
Revenue from operations was US$1,579 million, up 77% and a second-quarter record. EBITDA was US$972 million, up 108%, the highest quarterly figure the company has reported. Free cash flow before growth capital spending was US$668 million. For the half year, EBITDA was US$1,816 million, up 108%, and net profit US$1,243 million, both records, at an EBITDA margin of 60%, which the company calls industry-leading.
Output and cost
Mined metal production was 271 KT, the highest for a second quarter, and refined metal production was 264 KT, also a second-quarter record. Silver production was 173 tonnes, up 20% from a year earlier. The cost of producing zinc, excluding royalty, was US$703 a tonne, lower than in the previous quarter. The headline of the release credits lower zinc production cost for the record EBITDA.
Other points
The company says it received a letter of intent for the Gundlupet rare earth and yttrium block in Karnataka. Renewable power was 27% of its total power use, and its zinc alloy plant now runs on 100% renewable power. Chief Executive Amarendu Prakash said the record output reflects the strength of its operations, assets and people, and named disciplined growth, AI-led innovation and critical minerals as priorities. The release mentions no dividend.
About the rupee figures
The release gives no rupee amounts, but its note says a rate of 95.57 rupees to the dollar was used. At that rate, Spectate Media's own conversion puts quarterly net profit at about ₹6,413 crore and revenue at about ₹15,091 crore. These are approximate, not reported figures.
Key numbers
- Net profit: US$671 million (Up 142%, a record)
- Revenue from operations: US$1,579 million (Up 77%)
- EBITDA: US$972 million (Up 108%, a record)
- Zinc cost of production: US$703 a tonne (Excluding royalty; lower than last quarter)
What boards and CFOs should note
Three points stand out. First, profit grew faster than revenue, helped by a lower cost of production. Second, record volumes and cost control carried the quarter. Third, results in dollars mean rupee movements affect how they translate for Indian investors.
