Amazon and Tata Motors said on 27 October 2026 that 3,000 Tata electric trucks will be deployed across Amazon's transportation network in India, which Amazon describes as the largest electric truck deployment by an ecommerce company in the country. The details below come from Amazon India's announcement and Autocar Professional. Spectate Media has not seen any contract and the reports give no deal value, pricing or financing terms.
How it works
Tata Motors supplies light- and medium-duty electric trucks, including the Tata Ultra E.7, and Amazon's carrier partners will own and operate them. Tata Motors will also provide servicing and operational support. The first batch was flagged off in Delhi at the start of the festive season, when freight volumes peak. Neither report gives an end date for the full 3,000.
Routes and charging
The trucks will move shipments between facilities, within cities and along national freight corridors. The next phase targets the 2,800 km Delhi-Bengaluru-Chennai corridor on NH48, which Amazon calls the country's longest freight corridor. Charging hubs are being developed with Yahhvi, and Amazon's network already has 10 charging yards built by the firm. The reports give no charger counts for the new phase.
What was said
Rajesh Kaul of Tata Motors said zero-emission trucks are becoming a practical business proposition for fleet operators. Amazon links the effort to its net-zero carbon goal for 2040. Amazon's page also notes Delhi's 2026 EV Policy, which lets the first 1,000 privately owned medium-duty electric trucks registered in the three months after launch enter the city at any time of day for a decade.
What to watch
The pace of the rollout beyond Delhi, and the charging network on NH48, will show whether the plan scales. The announcement is a company statement and the emissions claims are the companies' own.
